Midwest Neurosurgery Associates is a trusted neurosurgical practice serving the Kansas City region.

Our team of board-certified neurosurgeons and advanced practice providers is committedto delivering expert care with compassion, clarity, and respect for every patient we serve.

Our Practice at a Glance

Insurance

We participate in most insurance plans.

Office Hours

Our office is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

After Hours

There is always a physician on call 24 hours a day to assist in emergent care of our patients.

Prescriptions

We take care of prescription refills only during office hours. Please call your pharmacy to ask for a refill, and the pharmacy will then contact us.  Controlled substance prescriptions require a written prescription; please contact the office directly for these refill requests.

New Patients

We generally see new patients on referral by their primary care physician or another specialist.

Our office is in the Research Tower Building located directly behind the Research Medical Center on the north side of the hospital. Access the parking lot from Prospect Ave. Follow the signs for 2330 East Meyer. We are the building with the silver metal overhang above the entry. Valet parking is available at the main entrance to our building.

Our office is in the Lee’s Summit Medical Center complex near the intersection of 50 Hgwy. and Todd George Rd. There are three entrances in the front of the complex. When facing the complex, our entrance is the red brick entryway on the left side of the complex, in the cream-colored and red brick building that runs perpendicular to the medical center.

Our History

FOUNDING

Midwest Neurosurgery associates was founded in 1967.

Since then, Midwest Neurosurgery associates has steadily grown from a two person general neurosurgery practice to an five member group with expertise and training in multiple sub-specialty areas.

BUILDING OUR PRACTICE

Arnold Schoolman, MD, PhD, recruited Andrew Kaufman, MD, to join him in August 1972.

Robert Morantz, MD, Professor of Neurosurgery at the University of Kansas Medical Center, left KU to join the group in 1980.

Jonathan Chilton MD, joined the practice in 1988

Geoffrey Blatt, MD joined the practice in 1992.

Matthew J. Pierson, MD, FAANS joined the practice in 2020.

Geoffrey Blatt, MD retired from the practice in 2021.

Jonathan Chilton, MD, retired from the practice in 2022

Demi Dawkins MD, joined the practice in 2023

PRESENT DAY

Throughout our long history, the physicians of Midwest Neurosurgery Associates have provided outstanding care to our hometown population, and to people from out-state Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, Illinois, and Arkansas, as well as states outside the Midwest. In addition, we have seen visitors from international locations who have made their way to Kansas City for treatment.

We now have five neurosurgeons and are still growing, making us the largest private neurosurgery clinic in our region.

Our Physicians

HCA AFFILIATES

Midwest Neurosurgery Associates is a private practice group composed of five board-certified or board-eligible neurosurgeons. They work under a contract with HCA to see patients in their HCA Clinic, Midwest Neuroscience Institute. All billing and payments are done through the auspices of HCA Midwest Neuroscience Institute.
